The overhauling procedure of Bernhard's 2CV in fast forward. The formerly blue bird became a Black and Red Charleston beauty. There is already a new "Pickerl" (special Austrian word for the vehicle inspection sticker) at the registration plate.
Some more pictures of his vehicle fleet are listed below.

Jürgen wrote about his extraordinary locomotive set:
"This car was built in 1988. Manufacturer was mister Loewer. Type of vehicle: Fighting Duck. It was built on a F20 from Daihatsu. The motor is a 2,5l Diesel with 60HP. I am the owner for 2 years now, after I had been searching for it 20 years long. The original price was nearly 47000DM. It was presented at the Essen Motor Show in 1988, but I didn't have enough money in my pocket at that time..."
His second all-terrain vehicle is based on a Suzuki, built up on a 1988 SJ413. The Mini-monster is powered by a 1300ccm engine with 16 valves, generating round about 100HP. The shoes are made of tires with the dimension 275. The conversion was done in 1995 for the world meeting in Yugoslavia. Jürgen is the proud owner since 1996/97.

The vehicle fleet of this picture gallery belongs to Bernhard from Austria:
"Enclosed some photos of two projects I have built at the last years. 2007 Lotus RCB 77 as well as 2009 a LoMax (enthusiastic driven by my wife). One 2CV6 is in the state of restauration and it will be finished soon, painted in red and black Charleston-look. It took me much more time than expected. The steel plates are very thin! Or am I just too fussy?"

The material thickness of the steel plates used to produce the 2CV was very thin and according to the legends it became even thinner through the years of production!

Ralf from Hamburg (northern Germany) writes to his pieces of jewelry:
"In the year 2007 I had the idea to buy a 2CV, even though I did not have to do a lot with cars. Quickly I found your pages, which were very helpful to me. Thanks a lot. Inbetween I own a 2CV6 built in 1986 and an Acadiane mixta built in 1983. Both have been overhauled by myself and I like them very much. My next project will be a LoMax. I am observing your conversion projects with interest.
Have always a good flight

Ralf"

Two projects finished since 2007! You are working with high speed...

Renault R4 Nina

This is not my new acquisition besides the fact that the photo was taken in front of my tinkerer garage. Nina from the village north of my garage is the owner and she wrote about her Renault R4:
"That's my muscle car painted in red. Seniors admire my contemporary car, a Peugeot 1007 when I get in/out (remark of the editor: this car has electrically opening sliding doors!). In contrast to that, seniors admire my R4 whenever it is driving or parking. Most of the adults have made their own experiences with a million seller of the sixties, seventies and eighties. That wasn't different to me. My parents owned two R4 one after the other. That was the only affordable station wagon. My parents were rich - rich of children! So the R4 was the right choice for us. We weren't fast (I assume the car had 27HP), but while driving an extended family you have to be careful. The journey to my grandmother in Wetzlar (remark of the editor: about 50kilometers) lasted feeled years. The boot was sometimes used to transport young pigs - that's what I would like to do with my R4, too. Recently a spring of the gear lever cracked. I (non-manual worker) opened the bonnet, traced along the gear lever and found the broken spring: at the most critical place. With the parts I found inside my handbag I could fix the problem. It will last forever. Something like that could not be done at one of those modern cars. You would have to contact the ADAC instead.

Greetings from O. to N.

Nina"

2CV Lotte
The green poultry of Melanie and Stephan from the Steiermark (region in Austria) is called Lotte. I is started by using two rocket switches like a Ferrari (if the TÜV inspector did not refuse to use them). I will inquire if the inspection was successfull...

I got a positive answer to my question: Lotte has a new vehicle inspection sticker - congratulations!

2CV AK
I have to admit a partial defeat concerning the "overhauling competition". Anke and Mike have already a new vehicle inspection sticker on their AK.
I am convinced by the result, but only with a camping capable interior, the finishing line is crossed.

Martin belongs to the lower-wider-faster fraction of the 2CV drivers "Rhein-Lahn". By now he is working at a project concerning this theme. The bodywork is done by a former coachwork builder and extensive welding work has to be done. He intends to do a 10cm top chop and a 5cm channeling.
His intention is to finish the car until the world meeting in Salbris 2011 and I started uploading his pictures to put some pressure on him.

Matthias wrote about his black and red Charleston:"It was the first brand new car I have bought and it is my companion for 240 000 km now. (Holidays in France, Portugal, Bulgaria, Greece, Yugoslavia, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and many kilometers in Germany). Since 5 years I don't drive the car during winter! I did all the servicing by myself. 12 years ago the original chassis was replaced by one of the first galvanized ones sold by 'Der Franzose' (German spare part dealer).
My companion in life owns a red 2CV. I also have a mint green colored Pick-Up, the first prototype of 'Der Franzose'. Another red duck is stored at my garage and waits for my 17 years old son. Together we will overhaul his car soon and that's why I favor your homepage. I am at the prepatory stage .... ;-)"

...I wish you a lot of fun with all your 2CV's.

I am in a kind of "overhauling competition" with Anke and Mike. Theirs sleeping beauty is an AK which has been turned into a shiny new car over the years. At the German national meeting in 2010 we told to showcase our work...
Very interesting is the pattern of the seat cover Anke has created. More about that as soon as the interior of my no. 2 will be renewed.

2CV
Stephan from Greece sent me this picture of his new acquisition. In his mail he wrote:
"After 20 years without a 2CV and after having damaged my 1978 Corolla, I found this duck at www.car.gr in the city of Petras. I drove there and bought the car. The duck was called to be built in 1985 with 50000km at the speedometer. Finally I found out that it was built in 1980 and kilometers on a speedometer of a 2CV are rarely a indicator of the true distance driven by the car... I guess it's more 150000 or 250000km...
At the outside, the previous owner invested lots of work: New front fenders, new ventilation cap, completely new roof, new interior and a new paintwork. But during the overhauling process some parts were lost: Rubber seals of the doors, cover of the engine fan, boot- and bonnet release lever, jack, crank and so on. Breaks broken (already overhauled), shock absorbers damaged, tires without profile and carburetor wrongly adjusted. One suspension pot is loosing oil. Anyhow it is running well and the engine sound is good. Just the gearbox makes me worry - it is louder than normal...
Now I am looking about the technical stuff. I have gotten a new vehicle inspection sticker las Monday and from now on it's legal to drive at the Greek streets!"

The "La Diva Blanc" of Jörg came from Italy to Munich. Like many ducks it's biography isn't complete and some red color is shining through some of the obviously replaced parts of the body. It is one of the rarely ordered cars painted in Blanc Meije / Gris Cormoran from the special edition called Dolly. It was built in 1985.

I like it - two colors are always better than just one!

The Beetle who is a Duck:
Volker wrote me about his car:"I have bought the car 1,5 years before by a private person, costing just a small amount of money. It was built in 1983 and 67.000 km are standing verifiable at the speedometer. The following work has been done:
Floor pans left and right, sill boards left and right, foot-well pan, fixing of the rear seat belts, kingpins, tie rod ends, exhaust, brake discs and linings, brake cylinder, brake calipers, fuel pipe, ignition. The chassis has never been welded and is in a superb condition. The Bitumen has been completely removed and was replaced by a special wax, used at ships. This year I am going to disassemble the car once again to repaint it (again like a ladybird beetle, as favored by my 8 year old daughter). The black dots are made of plastic film!! Fenders and bonnet have already been painted by myself using aerosol spray - looks good. The interior is in a real original condition except for one of the headrests. TÜV without any problems. I did all the work by myself, with your help !!
Sometimes a drop of oil appears at the ground. I will replace the oil filler neck to liquidate this problem.
Apart from that I just can say we are soul-mates. I don't like to create a showroom car, but an everyday vehicle making me smirking!!"

Remarks by the author:
Nice to help somebody without geting dirty hands...
Concerning oil leakage there is already a column at my pages.
Wax instead of Bitumen - that's down my alley.
To smirk and being smirked at, that is 2CV driver "destiny".

Achim from the German region Saarland told me about his overhauling project before (see below at this page).
During the winter days he made his Donald become a shiny car once again:

It is normal to be out of schedule while overhauling a car. To finish a project earlier than expected is unusual - Achim must have been full of beans while working on his 2CV!

Jürgen from the German region "Hunsrück" sent me these pictures of his construction place. This AZU 250 was built in 1972 and hopefully it will be able to drive on the road without help from the far east as soon as possible.

The Allgäu (a southern German region) is the base of this flying duck. Wolfram took this picture while replacing the rotten chassis. As you can see at the background, he also thinks that one 2CV is never enough...
Wolfram wrote me: "The car was built in 1989 an I am driving it since 4,5 years. It has been overhauled by Abe (happy-ents.de, sadly died in 2008 ), but not very successfully as you can see. Since 1984 I am mobile by 4 cylinders (2CV + Guzzi)."
Note of editorial: "Overhauling a 2CV is never for ever - there is always something to be done!"

A very active home constructor is Adrien from Luxembourg. His new aquisition is a bright yellow LoMax 224. A new galvanised Wheels-Chassis, a new engine + gearbox were used to transform the 2CV built in 1989 to this car in 1999. After that it was stored inside a barn and with only 364km at the speedometer Adrien ended the sleep of the big beauty.
Some days later Adrien sent me a picture which seems to prove the fact that LoMax are contaminous...

...accelerates in 59,4 seconds from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour. Elmar's 'Sauss Ente', a special edition offered in Germany, was built in 1987 and has been overhauled once with a galvanized Wheels-chassis. He bought it in May of 2002 and the duck is flying around the city of Osnabrück. Like migratory birds do, it is sometimes flying to the south and so it can be seen around the Rhein-Neckar-district from time to time. The green roof is an upgrade and it looks good at the green car, doesn't it?

Nick from Belfast has just rebuilt his '86 2cv Charleston in Burgundy and Black. Looks very good, doesn't it?.

Even in California rust can be found at the 2CVs. A part of it was probably imported to the US (without an extra charge of duty) when the car came from Denmark. Christopher lives in Sacramento CA and is the proud owner of the two cars shown here. The duck means hard work and he wants to orbit the car with his welding equipment during the next days, weeks, months or probably years(?), because the screwdriver went right through the sillboard with his finger included.
The DS 21 was built in 1966 an it is his everyday car.
He started loving Citroëns after having owned "Kafers, Kombis, British cars, and a myriad of other autos."
Good wishes from good old Germany while restauring your car!

Geir from Norway has a big plan: He wants to travel through Afrika with his 'Amelie'. Right now he is preparing his 2CV piece by piece for the great trip.

Krum from Bulgaria sent me a picture of his 'ugly duckling' as his wedding car. It was shot in a very agular position so it seems that it was a great party...

It's a AZLP built in 1959.
